Based on BMC International Health and Human Rights article published 25 March 2014, emotional neglect is the most common while educational neglect is the least common among one-child families in China. It is no wonder since the Asian society values academic achievement above all else during the childhood.

In Hongkong, child cruelty laws are addressed at a Forum on Child Psychological Abuse at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
“Although the criminal law seeks to protect the people’s rights and to deter offenders, it is not always fit for purpose. The emotional abuse of children, for example, can cause depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and, in extreme cases, suicide, yet is not always investigated, let alone prosecuted.
Although experts agree that emotional abuse or neglect can be as damaging to a child as physical harm, legal deficiencies can hamper joint action by police and social workers, and make it difficult to prosecute.”
The sad truth is the Asian society remains nonchalant about the importance of emotional nurturing. A non-nurturing or neglectful parent is also an emotionally abusive one in the ignorant sense of the word.
Emotional abuse is the silent killer in childhood leading to problems in adulthood thereafter.
Beware…. You may be an ignorant victim or an unaware perpetuator aka non–nurturing/neglectful or outright abusive parent who is clueless to the damage you are doing to your child.
Suffer the children…….
